the pier

I ascend a very narrow stone stairway, to a small weathered door.  The door exits underneath an old wooden pier.  The beach is quite beautiful (as most beaches are).

I'm still not sure exactly where the pier is located (the endless basement's twisty turning passages seem to have a mind of their own).  My best guess puts the pier somewhere along the Eastern US coast.

The pier is a strange, but happy place.  It seems to be wholly inhabited by children and young teens.  Runaways mostly.

Along the pier, there is a large white tented pavilion filled with rows of tables.  The children are gathered around large gaming cards.  Players toss their coins onto the cards and when coins land on a child's number the child takes the coins and then jumps off the pier into the water.  It seems to be an easy way for the younger children to earn some money.

I didn't spend much time at the pier as I felt rather conspicuous and out of place.

I walked into a large room that appeared empty, except for the vine-like plants that were growing against the walls.

The plants leaves were purple and pink with a luminescence that cast a soft light throughout the room.

The walls were worn and rough, slightly damp with bits of mossy growth here and there.

The oddest thing I noticed was that the room had the smell of peppermints.

Mysterious Creatures

In one corridor of the endless basement, I saw what appeared to be a red "puddle" with a faint glow to it.  Upon closer examination, I found it to be a deep pool with red water and green fibrous algae.

I gazed down into the pool and was amazed to see a large variety of tiny incredible creatures.

These are a couple of the mysterious creatures found in the red pool in the endless basement.

I don't know how far the pool extends, however I did notice that the faint glow was coming from deep down within the pool.

One day I shall return to the red pool and investigate more.

What is the endless basement?

The endless basement runs underneath our world with access points in many locations around the globe.  (I have located several access points. One such access point connects to a staircase in an impossibly tiny cottage.  Another access point was found behind a wooden crate inside a very old barn.)

I stumbled into the endless basement through a dream and have explored many of its rooms and corridors. (One small room contained a very ancient and dusty roll-top desk as well as a multitude of old and equally dusty office supplies.  I once opened a closet that contained nothing but dolls from floor to ceiling. *I suspect that there is a passageway behind the dolls, but did not take it upon myself to move them.)

I know there are others like me, who have stumbled upon the endless basement.  I hope that with their cooperation we may begin to document this fascinating place.
